Die Skulpturen der Ausstellung „Shogon“ sieht Akiyoshi Mishima als Werkzeug des Malens, sowie er Farbe und Druck als Formen der Malerei selbst versteht. Die kleinen Skulpturen, welche der Künstler in Holzkästen vor den C-Prints arrangiert, sind aus Ton geformt und in mehreren Schichten mit Farbe besprüht und gebürstet. In Form Größe und Materialität nimmt Akiyoshi Mishima darin ästhetisch Bezug auf traditionelle japanische Kunst, welche die Begriffe „Erhabenheit“ und „Zufälligkeit“ kontextualisiert. So existieren in Japan zahlreiche Keramikarbeiten, welche an Tempeln zum Verkauf stehen, die Glück, Erfolg oder Reichtum versprechen.
Shogon ist ein dem Buddhismus entlehnter Begriff, der das Dekorieren an Tempelanlagen angesiedelter buddhistischer Skulpturen beschreibt. Durch das Dekorieren soll die Majestät der Skulpturen unterstrichen werden.

Akiyoshi Mishima, born in 1978 in Osaka Prefecture of Japan, is an artist who has worked on the film, and the artwork that uses mixed media. Akiyoshi Mishima, who draws his inspirations from indigenous cultures allover the world, deals with only one human race beyond any boundaries of ethnic. Akiyoshi Mishimaʼs works shows the world in the future, surrounded by nature, without any relative merits of ethnic nor racial divisions, where mysterious life forms like ape-man, beasts and birds, fin and reptile live. Akiyoshi Mishimaʼs works sharpen these eye for our past and future.
